Holy Cross beats CCSU 20-7

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — Peter Pujals threw two TD passes on Saturday and the Holy Cross defense made a key fourth-quarter stand to beat CCSU 20-7.

The Blue Devils (1-2) had the ball on the Crusaders’ 6-yard line to start the fourth quarter but were pushed back, then missed a 24-yard field goal try.

Holy Cross (2-1) led 13-0 after a 24-yard scoring run by Diquan Walker and a 13-yard scoring pass by Pujals to Jake Wieczorek.

CCSU scored on a pass from Nick SanGiacomo to Tyrell Holmes, then Chris Abner picked off a pass by Pujals to give the Blue Devils a chance. But Holy Cross held, then drove to the edge of field goal range in the third quarter only to be stymied on downs by the CCSU defense.

Pujals hit Jereme Murray on a 33-yard scoring strike for a 20-7 lead, and the defense held again, forcing a turnover on downs on the Holy Cross 29.
