Gardner-Webb defeats Lynchburg 34-0

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (AP) — Lucas Beatty threw for two touchdowns and Gardner-Webb beat Virginia Lynchburg 34-0 in a game called at the end of the third quarter because of lightning on Saturday night.

Beatty was 10 of 19 for 138 yards. His touchdown passes went to J.J. Hubbard for 24 yards in the first quarter and Jordan Jones for 8 yards in the third.

Tyrell Maxwell ran for 52 yards and a touchdown and Gardner-Webb (1-2) finished with 171 yards rushing.

The Bulldogs led 17-0 at halftime and scored another 17 in the third and final quarter. Ivan Toomer returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown to give Gardner-Webb a 24-0 lead.

Lynchburg gained 81 total yards. Brent Smith was 15 of 31 for 102 yards and three interceptions.
