MEXICO CITY (AP) — Tropical Storm Odile has begun drifting northward again after marking time off Mexico’s southern Pacific coast, and forecasters expect it to become a hurricane by morning.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Odile has maximum sustained winds near 65 mph. Its center was about 215 miles south-southwest of Manzanillo and moving to the northwest at 4 mph. It’s expected to remain well offshore through at least Sunday.
A tropical storm watch is in effect from Manzanillo north to Cabo Corrientes, and dangerous surf and riptides are forecast.
Tropical Storm Edouard has also picked up strength in the far eastern Atlantic, but it’s expected to remain out to sea and pose no threat to land.
The hurricane center says Edouard has sustained winds of 65 mph and is centered more than 1,200 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands.
