Tropical Storm Edouard forms in far eastern Atlantic; forecast to stay out to sea

MIAMI (AP) — Tropical Storm Edouard has formed in the far eastern Atlantic and is expected to remain out to sea.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami says the fifth named tropical storm of the Atlantic hurricane season has sustained winds of 40 mph and was centered about 1,000 miles west of the Cape Verde Islands.

No coastal warnings or watches are in effect. Edouard is forecast to stay over the open waters of the north central Atlantic.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Odile is meandering off Mexico’s southern Pacific coast, keeping out to sea but expected to gain strength over the coming day and possibly become a hurricane.

The U.S. National Hurricane center says Odile had maximum sustained winds near 60 mph. Its center was about 245 miles south of Manzanillo.
