Mercury C Griner to miss Game 3 of WNBA Finals

CHICAGO (AP) — Phoenix Mercury center Brittney Griner has been ruled out for Game 3 of the WNBA Finals against the Chicago Sky.

Griner was hit in the right eye Sunday and underwent an outpatient procedure to correct a retinal issue. She has played a key role in helping Phoenix to a commanding 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series, averaging 15.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and six blocks in the first two games.

Griner says she will play Sunday if there is a Game 4. She says it was a doctor’s decision to sit out on Friday night.

Griner traveled to Chicago and shot around during pregame warmups.

The Mercury are trying for their third WNBA title.
