LaTech tops North Texas 42-21, Sokol throws 5 TDs

DENTON, Texas (AP) — Cody Sokol threw for five touchdowns and 243 yards to lead Louisiana Tech past North Texas 42-21 Thursday night.

Sokol threw for three touchdowns in the second quarter for a 21-0 halftime lead for the Bulldogs (2-1, 1-0 Conference USA). Josh Gaston scored on a 4-yard pass, Hunter Lee had a 28-yard touchdown and Paul Turner caught a 5-yard TD.

Sokol finished 20 for 31 with one interception, including a 21-yard touchdown to Turner in the third quarter.

North Texas quarterback Josh Greer put his team on the board with a 5-yard run early in the third period after it didn’t pick up a first down until late in the first half. Greer finished 13 for 27 for 77 yards.

North Texas (1-2, 0-1) outrushed Louisiana Tech 104-98.

It was the first game in Denton for the Bulldogs since 2006. They now lead the series 7-6.
