Eagles to be released on Va.’s Eastern Shore

CAPE CHARLES, Va. (AP) — Two bald eagles rescued on Virginia’s Eastern Shore are being discharged from the Wildlife Center of Virginia.

The eagles will be released Friday at Kiptopeke State Park in Cape Charles. The two young birds were rescued from a Northampton County site not far from where they were found earlier this summer.

Center officials say both eagles had difficulty flying when they were found.

Before the scheduled release, the eagles had been exercising at the Waynesboro center for several weeks and were deemed fit to fly and ready to return to the wild.

The birds will find plenty of company. The center says there are now more than 1,000 active bald eagle nests in Virginia.
