RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A man has been sentenced to life in prison for the slaying of his mother in Richmond.

Prosecutors say 45-year-old Ronnie Samuel Cook stabbed 78-year-old Emma Bell Cook in the chest with a kitchen knife.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1rM8Xb2 ) reports that Ronnie Cook was sentenced Wednesday in Richmond Circuit Court. He had pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in July.

Richmond prosecutor Traci B. Miller told the judge that Cook took his mother’s purse and stole her car after he stabbed her.
