Commuter bus catches fire on the Inner Loop (Video)

WASHINGTON — A bus carrying commuters caught fire and briefly closed the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway at Kenilworth Avenue Wednesday morning, causing delays throughout the morning commuting hours.

No one on the commuter bus was injured in the 7:10 a.m. fire, says Mark Brady, spokesman for Prince George’s County Fire and EMS.

The Inner Loop closed at 7:10 a.m. The first of the lanes reopened just after 7:30 a.m. All lanes reopened by 9 a.m.

Delays persisted after 9:30 a.m., with huge backups reported.

The fire started in the rear of the bus, possibly in the brakes, Brady tells WTOP.
