8 taken to hospitals after Howard County pileup

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) — Officials say eight people were taken to area hospitals after a multiple-car pileup in Howard County.

Howard County police say the crash happened Tuesday around 4:45 p.m. on Route 29 just north of Johns Hopkins Road in Scaggsville. Police say the driver of a Honda Pilot was speeding when he hit two cars, then a guardrail and then a truck and a trailer being towed by a truck.

The driver of the Honda Pilot, 29-year-old Jose Pinguil Chimborazo, was transported to a hospital and later released. His two passengers were hospitalized in stable condition. Five other people were taken to area hospitals. One person is in critical condition, and four others are in stable condition or have been released.

The accident is under investigation.
