Man indicted in 1982 Md. murder

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) — Prince George’s County prosecutors say a man has been indicted in a 1982 murder and that a DNA match was key to the case.

Prosecutors said Tuesday that 69-year old John Walsh has been indicted for the murder of Stephanie Watson. Prosecutors said Walsh is in prison on an unrelated conviction.

Prosecutors say Watson left her Laurel apartment on July 22, 1982 for an evening shift as a hospital receptionist but never arrived. Her car was later found covered in blood. Her skull was later found but her body was not.

Prosecutors say last year a detective submitted blood samples from Watson’s car to a state police lab, and a state DNA database returned a match for Walsh. An online court database did not list an attorney for Walsh.
