Image of Asia: Celebrating the Hindu god Ganesha

The Associated Press

In this photo by Bernat Armangue, Hindus mass around a statue of elephant-headed god Ganesha before immersing it in the Arabian Sea at the end of the Ganesha Chaturthi festival in Mumbai. The 10-day festival celebrates the birth of the god worshipped as the lord of wisdom who removes obstacles in life. Thousands of Ganesha statues are immersed in Indian water bodies on the final day of the festival in the predominantly Hindu nation.
