D.C. United, Whitecaps play to 0-0 tie

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — The Vancouver Whitecaps were shut out for a fourth straight game in settling for a 0-0 draw with D.C. United on Saturday night.

Vancouver (7-6-13) earned a point against the best team in Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference, but has now gone 411 minutes since it scored in a 2-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City on Aug. 10.

The 0-0 draw was the fifth of the season for the Whitecaps, 1-3-6 in their last 10.

United (14-8-5) padded its lead in the East, improving to 3-1-1 over its last five.

Vancouver midfielder Pedro Morales fired a shot from outside the penalty area early in the second half that goalkeeper Bill Hamid handled. Whitecaps defender Jordan Harvey then sent a diving header just wide in the 50th minute from close range.
