Youngstown St. handles Duquesne 34-23

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) — Dante Nania threw for two touchdowns and 288 yards to help Youngstown State beat Duquesne 34-23 on Saturday.

Youngstown State (1-1) jumped to a 28-0 lead early in the second quarter after Nania’s 31-yard touchdown pass to Nate Adams.

Martin Ruiz scored twice in the first quarter for Youngstown State, including a 46-yard touchdown run. Ruiz finished the game with 148 yards on 23 carries. Nania was 16 of 23 passing and Jelani Berassa caught six passes for 114 yards.

Chris King had 161 receiving yards for Duquesne (0-2) and caught a 64-yard touchdown pass from Dillon Buechel midway through the third quarter. Buechel threw a 57-yard score to Devin Rahming with under three minutes left to cut the deficit to 11, but could not recover the ensuing onside kick. Buechel amassed 347 passing yards to go with his two touchdowns.
