Wright-Phillips scores 21st; Red Bulls beat KC 2-1

HARRISON, N.J. (AP) — Bradley Wright-Phillips scored his MLS-leading 21st goal of the season to help the New York Red Bulls beat Sporting Kansas City 2-1 on Saturday night.

Wright-Phillips scored on a penalty kick in the 11th minute for New York (8-8-10) after he was tripped by Matt Besler. Thierry Henry made it 2-0 in the 52nd minute, curling a shot from the corner of the 18-yard box past goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum.

Dominic Dwyer had an answer 2 minutes later for Kansas City (12-10-6). Seth Sinovic headed Graham Zusi’s free kick to the top of the 6-yard box and Dwyer sent home his 18th goal of the season. In the second minute of stoppage time before halftime, Dwyer got behind the defense but his open shot was saved by goalkeeper Luis Robles.
