Southern runs by Central Methodist 56-14

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Tyre Bracken rushed for 125 yards, Malcom Crockett added 108 and both scored one of Southern’s six rushing touchdowns in a 56-14 victory over NAIA Central Methodist Saturday night.

Jamarcus Jarvis scored twice for the Jaguars (1-1) while Lenard Tillery and Brian McCain had the other two rushing touchdowns. Deonte Shorts was 10 of 18 for 191 yards and threw a go-ahead score to Reggie Travis in the first quarter.

A safety along with touchdowns by Jarvis, McCain and Tillery staked Southern to a 36-14 halftime lead. Austin Howard connected with Justin Morgan on a 16-yard score and Bracken capped the rout with a 63-yard breakaway in the fourth quarter.

The Jaguars finished with 395 yards rushing and held the Eagles to 163 total yards.

Central Methodist’s Tyler Steinkamp rushed for 79 yards and Keenan Honroe returned a kickoff 88 yards for a score late in the first half.
