Delicate cease-fire holding

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — Claims by a pro-Russian separatist leader that the Ukrainian side has violated the new cease-fire underscore the fragility of the deal.

But so far, the agreement seems to be holding today. The night passed quietly in Donetsk, the largest city controlled by the Russian-backed separatists.

The head of Ukraine’s national guard says the cease-fire called in the country’s rebellious east appears to be taking root despite some violations early on.

Ukraine, Russia and the Kremlin-backed separatists signed the cease-fire deal Friday after five months of bloodshed.
