PHOENIX (AP) — An injured bear cub is recovering in Arizona after a man who initially thought it was a dead dog along the side of the road scooped it up and drove it 80 miles to get help.

KTAR-FM reports (http://goo.gl/D8S5bP) that Christopher Morris of Payson called several rescues in the Payson area to take the bear but none had space.

He then contacted the Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center about an hour away in Scottsdale, which agreed to take the bear, and he took the cub on the road trip.

Tests showed the 4-month-old cub had a fractured leg but was otherwise in good health.

It is unknown if the cub will be released back into the wild.
