Long Hot Summer wins stakes at Del Mar

DEL MAR, Calif. (AP) — Long Hot Summer won the $150,000 Generous Portion Stakes for California-bred 2-year-old fillies by three-quarters of a length at Del Mar on Wednesday.

Ridden by Joe Talamo, Long Hot Summer ran six furlongs on Polytrack in 1:10.94 and paid $12.40, $6 and $3.40 at 5-1 odds. She rallied on the far outside during a three-horse battle in the stretch.

My Fiona returned $4.40 and $2.80, while 2-1 favorite Lost Bus was another nose back in third and paid $2.20 to show.

The victory, worth $85,500, increased Long Hot Summer’s career earnings to $130,500, with two wins in two starts.

Rafael Bejarano rode three winners on the card to extend his lead in the jockeys’ standings over Kent Desormeaux. Bejarano leads 29-25.
