RYE BROOK, N.Y. (AP) — Police say a suburban New York hotel guest’s gun accidentally went off and sent a bullet through a wall, grazing a guest in an adjoining room. No one was seriously injured.
It happened Saturday afternoon at the Hilton Westchester in Rye Brook.
Police Chief Gregory Austin said Monday that a guest had packed a handgun in his suitcase and was moving the weapon to a dresser when it fired. Austin says the wall and furnishings slowed the bullet before it hit the guest next door. It didn’t break his skin.
Austin says gun-owner Jason Fleming had a permit. He’s been charged with reckless endangerment and is free on $1,000 bond.
The 31-year-old from Lockport declined to comment Monday.
Hilton managers haven’t immediately returned a call.
