DC officials conducting streetcar emergency drill

WASHINGTON (AP) — Transportation officials in Washington say a portion of H Street will be closed for several hours while emergency responders take part in a drill involving the yet-to-start streetcar system.

Officials say the drill will take place on Sunday in the 1200 block of H Street NE and that that block will be closed and traffic re-routed. Officials say the exercise will simulate a streetcar derailment caused by a collision between a vehicle and a streetcar with passengers.

The 1200 block of H Street is expected to be closed between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. Officials say residents should know that the emergency activity is just a drill but to use caution when traveling in the area.
