Chargers’ Geathers leaves with knee injury

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — San Diego Chargers defensive tackle Kwame Geathers was carted off the field with a knee injury midway through the first quarter of Sunday’s preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers.

The Chargers also announced center Nick Hardwick suffered a neck injury. Both were questionable to return.

Geathers wound up at the bottom of a pileup of several bodies and on his back when his helmet appeared to snap backward and hit the turf. He was sitting up while being taken to the locker room.

For San Francisco, safety Bubba Ventrone was lost for the game to a hamstring injury in the second quarter.
