BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore Police Commissioner Anthony Batts was on his way to a peace walk when he helped catch an alleged gunman after a shooting.

Television station WBAL-TV (http://bit.ly/1skH5fB ) reports Batts and other officers were traveling to the walk near Cliftmont Avenue and Belair Road when they saw an armed man chasing another man Saturday afternoon. Batts says officers ordered the man to drop the gun. He and another detective administered CPR to the victim who had been shot and collapsed.

The victim was hospitalized in stable condition.

Two police officers responding to the shooting got into a car crash on the way. Their injuries and those to a motorist are non-life-threatening.

Batts was personally involved in the arrest of another armed suspect earlier this year.
