2 found dead in Verona, possible murder-suicide

VERONA, Va. (AP) — Augusta County police say investigators believe the fatal shootings of a Verona couple were a murder-suicide.

Media outlets report that the bodies of a 56-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman were found in the master bedroom of a house on Thursday. Both died from gunshot wounds. Their names haven’t been released.

Sheriff Randy Fisher says investigators believe the woman died last Sunday or Monday, and the man died Tuesday.

Fisher says the woman’s 25-year-old son called police Thursday and reported hearing gunshots two days earlier. He says the son has mental issues and didn’t investigate the gunshots.

The sheriff says the son isn’t a suspect.
