PG officer suspended over assault charge

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) — Police in Prince George’s County say a rookie patrol officer has been suspended after being charged with assault.

Police say Probationary Officer Shakeya Walker has been suspended after she was charged Friday with second degree assault. Police say the charge stemmed from a domestic situation Aug. 18 while Walker was off duty.

Police say Walker has been with the department for eight weeks and that her police powers have been suspended during an investigation. Police say she could be fired as a result of the incident.

A telephone message left Saturday at a listing for Walker was not immediately returned.
