WINCHESTER, Va. (AP) — Prosecutors say no charges will be filed against a Virginia deputy sheriff who shot his 16-year-old daughter after mistaking her for an intruder.
The Frederick County Commonwealth Attorney’s office said in a statement this week that an investigation determined there was no evidence Loudoun County Sheriff’s Sgt. Easton McDonald committed a crime.
Frederick County Sheriff’s Capt. Donnie Lang has said an alarm sounded at McDonald’s Winchester home on Aug. 12. McDonald saw the dark shape of a person advancing through the garage door and fired.
Lang said McDonald then recognized the voice of his daughter, who was returning home after apparently sneaking out. McDonald crashed his car as he rushed her to the hospital. An ambulance then took the teen to Winchester Medical Center.
Media outlets report she remains hospitalized.
