Image of Asia: Zoo honors Philippine heroes

Malabon Zoo owner Manny Tangco said he has opened the new koi collection to honor Filipinos who work abroad because the fish are said to symbolize perseverance. The launching of the new attraction comes in time for National Heroes’ Day on Monday. About one in 10 Filipinos works abroad, supporting their families and the Philippine economy with the money they send home. The government often refers to Filipino workers overseas as the country’s “new heroes.”
