The stock market paused Friday, following four days of gains, after a speech by Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen left investors unclear about the central bank’s next move on interest rates.

A flare-up in tensions between Ukraine and Russia weighed on the market after a Russian convoy entered the country, purportedly to bring aid supplies.

On Friday:

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 38.27 points, or 0.2 percent, to 17,001.22.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index lost 3.97 points, or 0.2 percent, to 1,988.40.

The Nasdaq composite added 6.45 points, or 0.1 percent, to 4,538.55.

For the week:

The Dow is up 338.31 points, or 2 percent.

The S&P 500 index is up 33.34 points, or 1.7 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 73.62 points, or 1.7 percent.

For the year:

The Dow is up 424.56 points, or 2.6 percent.

The S&P 500 index is up 140.04 points, or 7.6 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 361.96 points, or 8.7 percent.
