Maryland State Fair to receive award

TIMONIUM, Md. (AP) — The Maryland State Fair will receive the 2014 William Donald Schaefer Helping People Award.

State Comptroller Peter Franchot will present the award to Howard “Max” Mosner, the president and general manager of the fair, on Friday.

The award, now in its third year, is presented to an individual or organization in each county in Maryland that exemplifies the former governor’s lifelong commitment to helping people.

The fair, which began in 1878, runs through Sept. 1, and features food vendors, rides, competitions and agricultural and barn tours, where revelers can visit with newborn piglets, calves and chicks.
