Jets place rookie WR Evans on season-ending IR

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets have placed rookie wide receiver Shaquelle Evans on season-ending injured reserve after he underwent shoulder surgery Tuesday.

The fourth-round draft pick out of UCLA missed most of training camp after injuring a shoulder that caused him to sit out practice on Aug. 1.

Coach Rex Ryan said a few days later that the shoulder “looks pretty bad” and Evans never fully returned to practice.

Evans announced on his Twitter page Tuesday morning: “Going under the knife today. Praying for a speedy recovery!”

Evans had nine touchdown catches for UCLA last season. He had at least one reception in each of his last 28 games with the Bruins, and led the team in catches his last two years.
