Ride marks 12th anniversary of Va. triple slaying

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (AP) — About 300 motorcyclists, drivers and others participated in a ride marking the 12th anniversary of the slayings of a Southside Virginia family.

Henry County Sheriff Lane Perry told the ride’s participants that the investigation into the Short family killings remains active.

Michael and Mary Short were found fatally shot in their Collinsville home on Aug. 15, 2002. The remains of their 9-year-old daughter, Jennifer, were found six weeks later in Rockingham County, North Carolina. She also had been shot.

Perry said a team of investigators recently reviewed the case and suggested some new ideas.

Media outlets report that the 12th annual Jennifer Short Memorial Scholarship Bike/Car Ride was held Sunday. The event raised $3,400 for a scholarship fund at Bassett High School.
