Boys’ rooftop walk gets parents suspended sentence

SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. (AP) — A Virginia couple has received suspended sentences after two of their young children were seen wandering on the roof of their townhouse.

Michael and Nancy Gillikin pleaded guilty Monday in Spotsylvania County Circuit Court to three misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The Free Lance-Star (http://bit.ly/1oGIyhG) reports a judge sentenced them to three years in prison but suspended all of it if the Gillikins show good behavior for five years.

Police say a neighbor called them after witnessing boys ages 2 and 3 walking on the roof of the family’s townhouse on Jan. 14. When deputies arrived, the boys were found leaning out of an opened upstairs window. A 9-month-old child was left unattended in a playpen and the parents were asleep in another room.
