RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Chesterfield County plans to provide laptop computers to every one of its middle school students.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/1lMZiyG ) more than 14,000 computers will be delivered to its students starting Sept. 8.

Next year, the school system will provide more than 18,000 laptop computers to every Chesterfield high school student.

Chesterfield will pay $5.1 million a year for the 32,000 laptops once high school students are included. The money will come from the division’s technology budget.

Students will be assessed a $50 technology fee for the computers. School officials say parents will save more than $50 because of the supplies the computer will replace.
