Chinese student drowns at US host family’s pool

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Police say a Chinese exchange student has drowned in his Southern California host family’s pool.

Anaheim police Lt. Bob Dunn says officers and paramedics were summoned to the host family’s house Wednesday night to perform CPR on the 16-year-old boy.

He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and died shortly after arrival.

Sgt. Mike Lynch said the teen was swimming in a gated pool with several people when he got into the deep end and began struggling. Lynch said several people at his host family’s house rescued him from the water.
