Va. transportation chief plans meetings on US 29

CHALROTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — Virginia Transportation Secretary Aubrey Layne is planning a series of meetings along the U.S. 29 corridor to discuss projects aimed at easing congestion.

Layne plans to meet with all of the participants in discussions held earlier this year about U.S. 29. The first meeting is set for Wednesday with the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors. Next week, Layne is scheduled to meet with the Charlottesville City Council.

Layne tells The Daily Progress (http://bit.ly/1tWdkpE ) that he wants to address concerns about a $230 million package of projects.

The Commonwealth Transportation Board approved the projects in June. They include widening U.S. 29 from Polo Grounds Road to Town Center Drive and an interchange at the intersection of Rio Road and U.S. 29.
