WASHINGTON — D.C. Council member Marion Barry is back in the Department of Motor Vehicles’ good graces.

The four-term mayor released a statement on Wednesday announcing he had paid off the balance of his parking tickets and cleared up questions surrounding the registration on his 2002 Jaguar.

“A number of people who heard about the issue called and offered to pay the balance,” Barry says in a statement.

But he made clear the balance of the tickets — $2,339 — came from his own personal funds.

The original figure was considerably higher than that, but some tickets were reduced for being issued during official Council business.

In the statement, Barry thanks the DMV director, Lucinda Babers, and the administrative law judge for resolving the matter.

In a series of tweets Tuesday, Barry both retracted tweets and praised police in D.C..
