AOC appoints Fiona de Jong as secretary general

SYDNEY (AP) — The Australian Olympic Committee has appointed Fiona de Jong as its secretary general, making her the first woman to take charge of the organization’s administrative and financial roles.

The AOC on Thursday said De Jong, a lawyer who was the AOC’s director of sport for 10 years, will take over in October when she returns from maternity leave. She replaces Craig Phillips, who resigned in June after 23 years.
