Iowa creates personnel division within staff

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz has established a personnel and recruiting division within the Hawkeyes coaching staff.

Ferentz announced Tuesday that former graduate assistant Kelvin Bell will be the director of on-campus recruiting and that Max Allen, an administrative assistant, will be the director of new media. Both are newly created positions for the Hawkeyes.

Scott Southmayd, a quality control director at Iowa for the past nine seasons, will now be the program’s director of player personnel. The Hawkeyes have also brought back former defensive end Broderick Binns as a graduate assistant.

Ferentz says the changes are designed to make Iowa’s prospect identification and evaluation process more efficient.
