Submarine Squadron 6 gets new commander

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — A Norfolk-based submarine squadron has a new commanding officer.

Capt. Paul Snodgrass became the commander of Submarine Squadron Six on Friday. He’s taking over for Capt. Blake Converse, who will become the chief of staff for Submarine Force Atlantic. Converse had been in the post since 2010.

The change of command ceremony occurred onboard the Los Angeles-class attack submarine USS Montpelier at Naval Station Norfolk.

Snodgrass will be in charge of seven submarines that are home ported in Norfolk, as well as two being built at Newport News Shipbuilding. His staff is responsible for training the submarines’ crews for a variety of operations.

Snodgrass is originally from Seymour, Indiana.
