PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say a 16-year-old Virginia girl was killed in a tubing accident on a northern Michigan lake.

The Iosco County sheriff’s department tells The Bay City Times (http://bit.ly/1qHAu2K ) that the accident happened Friday on Jose Lake. It’s in Plainfield Township, about 55 miles north of Bay City in the northern Lower Peninsula.

The sheriff’s department said Monday that it isn’t releasing the girl’s identity.

The department says a 55-year-old woman was towing the girl behind a power boat when the tube struck an anchored swimming platform.
