University of Delaware tripling up roommates

NEWARK, Del. (AP) — The University of Delaware is going to house more students with three in a room in residence halls, due to a large class size.

WDEL-AM (http://bit.ly/1mU6NTZ) reports that the largest freshman class ever is arriving at the university this fall.

Kathleen Kerr, executive director of residence life and housing, says the university will take a double room and add another bed and desk. Kerr says tripling up doesn’t appear to affect students’ quality of life. She says their grades are typically higher and that a lot of students enjoy the social environment. She also says students find other places on or off campus to study.

Kerr says 25 percent of first-year freshmen will be in triples this year. That’s compared to 10 percent last year. She says it’s randomly determined.
