Maryland basketball arena renamed Xfinity Center

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — The basketball arena at the University of Maryland has been renamed the Xfinity Center.

The arena was previously known as Comcast Center. Xfinity is Comcast’s high-speed Internet brand.

Comcast owns naming rights to the arena and has the right to rename it. The renaming efforts will be paid for by Comcast and are expected to be completed by mid-August.

The arena seats nearly 18,000 people. It hosts Maryland men’s and women’s basketball as well as gymnastics, volleyball and wrestling. The athletic department’s administrative offices are also located there.
