Montgomery County firefighters on Monday morning put out a fire in a Chevy Chase neighborhood near the border with D.C.

MCFRS units responded to the fire, in the 3100 block of Cummings Lane, at about 8:30 a.m., according to department spokesperson Pete Piringer. All occupants of the home evacuated and there are no reported injuries.

The fire started in the home’s basement, according to Piringer, and spread to the first floor. Smoke was reported coming from the side of the structure.

Additional units were requested and the fire was put out at around 9 a.m. Crews remain on scene to clear smoke and check that the fire did not spread.

Expect the 6900 block of Western Avenue to remain closed for the near future as firefighters complete their work.
