Police arrest alleged police impersonator in Md.

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) — Prince George’s County police say they’ve arrested a man who impersonated a police officer and attempted to kidnap a 12-year-old girl.

Police say that they were called around 2:30 p.m. Friday to the 7300 block of Landover Road for a report of an attempted kidnapping. Police say that when they arrived they learned that 25-year-old Michael Jesse McLong had approached a 12-year-old girl and her 8-year-old brother and identified himself as a police officer. He then allegedly grabbed the girl’s arm and pulled her toward the back of a shopping center.

Police say a driver confronted McLong and the children run away. An off-duty Cheverly police officer and a security guard detained McLong until other officers arrived.

It was not clear if McLong yet had a lawyer in the case.
