Virginia man convicted in 2007 slaying

STAFFORD, Va. (AP) — A Stafford County man has been convicted of fatally shooting another man in 2007.

The Free Lance-Star (http://bit.ly/1pR4rZ6) reports a Stafford Circuit Court jury found 44-year-old William Joseph Hughes guilty of first-degree murder Thursday.

Hughes was charged in the June 2007 shooting of Jason Shane Plaster. Plaster’s remains were found buried in March 2013 on property owned by Dennis Paul Benzie in White Oak.

Co-defendant Stuart Lee Sullivan Jr. awaits sentencing in September for a second-degree murder conviction. Benzie is awaiting trial on drug-related charges.

Benzie and Sullivan had testified that Hughes became upset with Plaster and shot him.
