Falcons waive WR Johnson before training camp

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons have waived wide receiver Darius Johnson.

The team announced the move Friday, just hours before players took the field for the first practice of training camp.

Johnson made a surprising contribution last season after star receiver Julio Jones went down with a season-ending injury. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Johnson played in 10 games with two starts, making 22 catches for 210 yards and one touchdown.

He was signed as a college free agent before the 2013 season.
