Md. letter carrier pleads guilty to stealing mail

BALTIMORE (AP) — A U.S. Postal Service employee has pleaded guilty to stealing more than 20,000 pieces of mail since 2005.

Forty-seven-year-old Jeffrey Shipley of Millersville entered the plea in federal court in Baltimore on Thursday.

According to his plea agreement, Shipley was a letter carrier in Brooklyn, Parkville and Catonsville. Prosecutors say he stole mail, stools, mail bags, signs and other items from the Postal Service.

Authorities say a search of Shipley’s home in March uncovered more than 20,000 pieces of mail, including credit cards, gift cards, checks, passports, jewelry, and other items.

Shipley agreed to quit his job, and could be sentenced to up to five years in prison.
