Road striping causes problems on I-395

WASHINGTON — It appears a contractor failed to finish restriping about 1,000 feet of Interstate 395, causing problems for Wednesday morning’s commute, says Virginia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Jennifer McCord.

Work on the interstate typically wraps up by the time commuters head out in the morning.

Commuters called the WTOP Traffic Center about the lanes on I-395 that have been incorrectly striped from Landmark toward King Street.

The striping confused drivers as they approached the area, especially along the left side of the highway.

McCord says the lanes are being changed to provide for the new off-ramp that will be created to the Mark Center.

The lanes are being shifted to the right as part of the project at Seminary Road.

VDOT says consultants and contractors will be on the scene Wednesday to assess safety concerns.

The work will be finished Wednesday night.
