Holt sits after playing 59 straight games

TORONTO (AP) — Versatile Red Sox rookie Brock Holt is not in the starting lineup Wednesday for the first time since being recalled May 17, ending a streak of 59 straight games.

Holt has played an AL-high 533 innings since his streak began, appearing at all four infield positions and all three outfield spots. The only major leaguer to play every position except pitcher and catcher this season, he leads AL rookies with a .321 average and has three homers and 23 RBIs.

Red Sox manager John Farrell said Holt’s versatility has been “something of a silver lining in our season so far. Through 100 games, Boston is last in the AL East at 47-53.

Holt’s break won’t last long: Farrell said the rookie will return to the lineup Thursday.
