Cozart leaves game after being hit by pitch

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Zack Cozart left the Cincinnati Reds game with the Milwaukee Brewers after being hit in the right hand by a pitch while attempting to bunt.

X-rays on the first two fingers of his hand were negative, and the team said he was day-to-day.

Cozart was hit by a pitch from Milwaukee starter Jimmy Nelson in the seventh inning, twisting out of the batter’s box in pain while grabbing his hand. The ball appeared to hit Cozart’s bat first, but Milwaukee’s appeal of the hit by pitch call was unsuccessful and he was awarded first base.

Cozart stayed in the game as a runner and was doubled off second base on an easy flyout to end the inning. He then left the game.

In 95 games, Cozart is batting .227 with two home runs and 22 RBI.
